Edge is an independent education foundation, dedicated to
raising the status technical, practical and vocational
learning.
We want all young people to have the
opportunity to achieve their potential, to ensure that the UK's
future workforce is equipped with the skills to succeed.
Edge believes that there are many paths to
success.
We believe that 'learning by doing' should be valued
equally with academic learning and that all young people have the
chance to learn in a way that suits their strengths.
We are entirely independent.
When the examinations organisation, Edexcel, was sold to Pearson
plc in May 2003 the money went to a holding charity called the
Edexcel Foundation. In 2004 the trustees decided it should promote
practical and vocational learning and in May 2004 it was officially
renamed the Edge Foundation.
Edge wants to see fundamental changes in the education
system.
We believe that practical, technical and vocational learning
should be part of every young person's education. So we want all
young people to learn the skills they need for life and work,
improved educational facilities, better careers guidance for young
people, more opportunity for learners' voices to be heard,
increased employer engagement at all levels, and an overhaul of
teacher training, particularly in practical and vocational
subjects.
