The Edge Foundation has announced that Neil Bates FCGI has been elected as its new Chair. He takes over from the Rt Hon the Lord Baker of Dorking.
Edge Chief Executive, Alice Barnard, said:
‘Lord Baker continues to be a tireless champion for technical education. We are grateful for his dedication and work for Edge over the past nine years and I am so glad that he is staying on as a Trustee.
‘Neil has served as a Trustee for over 10 years and is deeply committed to Edge’s vision for a more balanced and equitable education system that recognises the importance of high quality technical training to individuals, businesses and the UK economy. His whole career has been in technical education and he has vast experience of charity governance. I am delighted to welcome him as Chair and looking forward to us working together to deliver Edge’s ambitions for the future.’

‘It is an honour and a privilege to be elected Chair of the Edge Foundation. I believe passionately that all young people deserve an education fit for the 21st century. During my long experience in this field I have witnessed first-hand the transformational effect that high quality, relevant education, including technical and creative subjects, has on the life chances of young people and adults.
‘I am delighted to have the opportunity to have a deeper involvement with Edge across a strategic and operational level, and particularly excited to be working more closely with the fantastic team.’
