Our manifesto

Step3
Key Stat: 40% of Year 9s have no-one to talk to about their options*

The problem:

Young people are given too little choice in the direction of their education, leading to disaffection and boredom.

The solution:

Work with the Government to create different post-14 pathways according to whether students would prefer to focus on academic or practical subjects. All students, in addition to continuing a broad curriculum including English, maths and science, will be supported in choosing a post-14 pathway matched to their interests and abilities, balancing theoretical and practical learning.

I believe that it is not so much a matter of choice as a matter of knowing that theer is areal world of a huge variety of future working possibilities, far more than the restricted range seen in the media, most of which they have never heard of.
The skills and knowledge required of these are even less well known, so if all you do is broaden the knowledge of these students as to what work is out there and what you need to do to get that job, then your task will have been beneficial
