Why did we need the Upstart Awards?

The social enterprise sector makes a great contribution to training and practical learning, and the Upstart Awards reward that contribution. They began in 2001 and showcase businesses that offer innovative and sustainable solutions to social problems. The awards recognise excellence in all aspects of social enterprise, including its vital contribution to training and practical learning. They are part of a programme designed to encourage and promote social entrepreneurs to pass on practical skills and social values to their employees.
