VQ Day
Celebrating vocational achievement
VQ Day
Status: Live
In Brief: Edge has created a day of nationwide celebration of vocational qualifications to shine a spotlight on the achievements of practical learners

Why do we need VQ Day?

Vocational courses teach vital skills, but for too long they have gone without the national public recognition they deserve. VQ day focuses on the millions of people who gain vocational qualifications every year, and the people who help them do it.

Something to celebrate

The second national VQ Day took place on 24 June 2009. The day was a brilliant celebration of the people who gain vocational qualifications every year. Showcase events took place in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and over 120 events were held in schools and colleges across the UK.

With a little help from our friends

VQ Day is led by Edge in conjunction with the vocational qualifications community. A massive thank-you to everyone who helped us to make VQ Day 2009 a success, and we look forward to working with you on VQ Day 2010!

Having taught for 25 years I am pleased to find you. I am of the traditional route ('bog standard compreghensive', 8 'O' levels, 4 'A' levels, degree at 21 (York, Ecology) yet have always valued and championed the vocational route. I have been instrumental in getting our school to offer more vocational routes (GNVQ, BTEC's) and our new Headteacher is of the same view and I look forward to further developments. I am also appalled by recent comments by one politician - I have a grade C for English, my wife a 3rd class honours and we are both measured as 'outstanding'. To me this goes to show the ignorance of some people and how they may abuse education were they to be elected. The achievement academically does not automatically qualify you as an excellent teacher. Is there someone at Egde who can contact me?
