Edge sponsors the AoC Beacon Award for recognising excellence in practical teaching and learning
AOC Beacon Awards
Congratulations to Exeter College for winning this year's AoC
Beacon Award for excellence in practical teaching and learning,
sponsored by Edge. The Exeter College initiative provides a
highly regarded pathway into employment in the aerospace
engineering sector. The Flybe Diploma in Engineering combines
practical and theoretical elements in a course that equips students
to become licensed aircraft engineers.
The AoC Beacon Awards are highly regarded awards for the Further
Education sector. Edge is delighted to sponsor
the award which recognises excellence in practical teaching and
learning - both of which are essential to support Edge's mission of
raising the status of practical and vocational learning.
Colleges applying for the Edge award have to
demonstrate how their course provides young people with
opportunities to tackle real life problems by learning from people
who are experts, using the "tools of the trade".
The young people must be able to demonstrate that their experiences
on the course are meaningful, challenging and life-changing.
By entering the Edge this award colleges are
recognised for providing course that enable young people to develop
the skills and experiences needed for successful
futures. Each round of applications identifies
more role models - both young people and
teachers - that in turn inspire more colleges to provide excellent
practical teaching and learning for young
people.
