Abingdon & Witney College win AoC Beacon Award

Edge is delighted that Abingdon & Witney College has been announced as the winner of the 2017/18 AoC Beacon Award for Practical Teaching and Practical Learning, sponsored by Edge, for their Action Tap initiative in The Oxfordshire Business and Enterprise School (TOBES). TOBES run a cross curricular approach which develops students’ practical skills through a range of activities including students leading the delivery of real projects for local businesses.  The College has a commitment to involving employers and the local community with the work of the college.  Students from Business, Accounting, Sport, Public Services and Travel & Tourism work collaboratively on social action projects such as the TOBES Charity Walk. Students planned and budgeted the event, mapped the walk route, provided fitness training for participants, designed and produced marketing materials and hosted the day including crowd control, refreshments and first aid.

Students at Abingdon & Witney College have opportunities to develop not only academic, vocational and professional skills but have experience of working with and for local businesses to support their community. This develops the employability skills so valued by employers and prepares the students to progress to further or higher education and into the world of work.
