The Edge Innovation and Development Fund

The Edge Foundation Innovation and Development Fund is a new £1million grant programme with the objective of supporting innovation and development within technical, practical and vocational learning.

Activate Learning, Oxfordshire

£90,000 for a Career Pathway College to provide high quality technical education in construction and heritage craft

Ayrshire College, Scotland

£100,000 to open a Skills Centre of Excellence for vocational and new Scottish Foundation apprenticeships

Barking & Dagenham College, London & Thames Gateway

£96,000 for The Siemens' Mechatronics Academy

Blackburn College, Lancashire

£95,500 to establish a Regional Automotive Technology Development Programme providing cutting edge facilities with their automotive curriculum

Career Ready, Liverpool

£50,000 for Five new Career Ready centres focusing on the logistics sector

Coleg y Cymoedd, Cardiff

£100,000 to establish a Centre for Excellence for Railway Training with outreach for the whole of Wales and West of England

Eden Project, Cornwall & South West

£82,000 for a formal educational programme for the delivery of horticulture and food production located on the Eden site

£100,000 for a Digital Skills Centre within the new Career College 

Prospects College of Advanced Technology, Thames Gateway

£50,000 to set up a Careers Academy for Railway Engineering and Aviation  (CAREA) to provide careers advice which links schools and business

All applications must support Edge's Six Steps for Change and address at least two of the following three aims:

  • support the creation of new institutions
  • support the development of profound employer engagement
  • address areas of skills shortages for the UK economy

Additionally all projects will support effective dissemination of best practice in vocational education and training and be able to support further development or replication.
