This study examines higher education in England, looking at young people’s options and the divisions between different higher education choices.
The study assesses the current higher education 'landscape', which shows the percentage of students on broadly academic or vocational routes. Progression between further and higher education is examined as well as the support and advice that is available to those entering higher education. The factors which influence young peoples decisions are highlighted, as well as the various routes by which students continue towards a foundation degree. Finally, the study focuses on the effect of the terminology of 'further' and 'higher' education, considering whether the lack of progression between the two may be compounded by definitional divisions.
