Young People's attitudes to the education system

21/01/2009

A YouGov survey of over 1000 young people in January 2009 found that three quarters felt the current education system needed to be changed to better suit their needs.

Questions asked in the survey included 'Do schools do enough to help young people prepare for the world of work?' and 'Do young people get fed up with school before they are 16?'

The results show that as well as finding the current education system unexciting and uninspiring, young people felt it does not give them the skills needed by employers.

This research contributed to the launch of Edge's Six Steps to Change Manifesto, launched in January 2009 to set out a clear vision of how the UK can reform the education system to better meet the needs of both young people and employers.
