During the course of the past twelve months the students involved
in ASDAN's provision have taken part in various community projects
which have involved building a nursery garden and cleaning graffiti
in the local community. Students have also taken part in a one-day
a week work experience placement in a vocational area of their
choice and have gained valuable career knowledge, insight into the
world of work and opportunities to practice and develop their
employability skills.
In addition to this there has been access to
enterprise experiences through setting up 'mini enterprise'
activities, such as making and selling bird feeders and running a
'Smoothie' stall.
Other activities, such as residential experience, all
highlight the dedication and commitment of the team and the degree
of targeting and attention the school undertakes to ensure students
succeed.
As well as the above the school provides one-to-one
mentoring with these students to help them succeed within and
beyond education. Last year the school managed to ensure that 100%
of the potential group who were at risk of becoming part of the
'not in education, employment or training' (NEET) group subsequent
to leaving school, all left school with a minimum of three
equivalent GCSEs (both Level 1 and Level 2). They are all now in
either a college or a training placement.
