Gloucestershire College Media Academy

The Academy prides itself on its strong industry links and partnerships with leading professional bodies and local businesses such as the BBC, Channel 4, Cult Clothing, The Everyman Theatre, L'Oreal, Sony and Apple, which has contributed to the increasing focus on employer led curriculum.

Gloucestershire College recently welcomed Hr Majesty the Queen to its new Gloucester dockside Campus at the heart of the £1b regeneration of Gloucester. During this prestigious visit, media students worked alongside 3D film makers Renegade Media in filming 'The Queen in 3D' which recently screened on Channel 4. Academy students have also produced a music video for upcoming London Artist Tamanda Walker. In addition to a large number of industry briefings, ITV West reporter Ken Goodwin has taken up residence within the Academy which offers a further opportunity for the media students to work alongside media professionals.

Head of the Media Academy Tim Evans says;
"Our students are trained on the latest digital technology which is crucial if they are to gain successful employment in the creative industries. A firm grounding in these principals delivered by our gifted staff and supported by our excellent technicians provides a quality learning experience for learners who come into contact with the Academy."

The Academy has also recently celebrated outstanding results in its AS/A2 Photography offer, with 6 students achieving 100% in their final exams and high success rates across the board.

Paul Bond, Photography Course Leader says;
"The Photography A Level course has been so successful in recent years because, although an academic A Level, we bring in as many vocationally relevant elements as possible and set true professional briefs which we then ask to backed up with academic evidence."

Former Media Academy students have gone on to work placements with DB audio systems, AER and music studios, and others have gone on to further study at prestigious institutions such as the London College of Fashion and the University of Westminster.

Academy teaching staff are encouraged to regularly engage in continuing professional development activities to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in the industry and undertake highly relevant commercial training. Recent examples include: Apple iLife training, BBC workshop sessions and Canon imaging technologies. Regular master classes, which benefit both staff and students, further endorse this with visiting speakers delivering live briefs that firmly places learning within a vocational and professional context.
