Cherakee joined the EFL team from the education sector where she qualified as a Level 6 Careers Leader and worked as Employer Engagement and Careers Lead in a UTC school, developing and delivering aspects of the careers strategy. Cherakee started working in the careers sector over 10 years ago working on the National Careers Service contract as an Adviser and Contracts and Compliance Lead developing links with employers to support the unemployed into employment. It was here she was inspired to work in education to support students gain the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to be a fulfilled, successful citizen and understand the world of work.
As Education and Employer Engagement Coordinator Cherakee now leads the real world learning programme and is focusing on training other professionals to embed real world learning in to the curriculum, helping to make the curriculum relevant and inspiring for learners. Cherakee has led the Teacher Externship programme in the North East and is now supporting others to develop this opportunity for teachers, providing a valuable insight into industry to enable teachers to create industry links to their subject, contextualising learning.
