“Now more than ever, I believe that every 16- to 25-year-old should be guaranteed an apprenticeship to rocket-boost our skills nation and help our young people to climb the ladder of opportunity. We can incentivise businesses to hire new apprentices through a skills tax credit for SMEs and give training providers a catch-up apprentice premium to train those who have been left-behind.
“My dream would be to see 50% of students going to university to study degree apprenticeships. Pupils must be given advice on apprenticeships and be able to apply through a UCAS for FE. Universities’ access to funding should be dependent on encouraging and fully participating in degree apprenticeships.
“The Government and higher education providers must do everything possible to tear down the barriers to degree apprenticeships to help support our more disadvantaged learners.”
