Young people need skills for life, says Olly Newton

The Prince’s Trust and HSBC today (30 August 2017) published a report, Results for Life, which found that 91% of teachers thought schools should do more to equip students with ‘soft’ skills.

Edge Director of Policy and Research, Olly Newton, commented:

‘Teachers recognise that skills such as communication, team-work and problem solving are not only highly valued by employers, often above qualifications, but equip young people for life. It is disappointing that the Government stubbornly adheres to a wholly academic EBacc which denies many young people the opportunity to develop the ‘soft skills’ which can be learnt through art, design, performance and other creative and technical subjects.’
