You might expect someone who’s passionate about Formula 1 and skiing to enjoy living at a fast pace and Charlie Search certainly does that at the Edge Hotel School where he’s studying for a Hotel Management Degree (BA).
‘I thoroughly enjoying working the bar. I enjoy the interaction with the customers, but you also have to work at a high speed. Studying and working at the same time is quite challenging, but I know that the practical experience I’m getting here is a crucial part to my development and understanding of the industry.’
Originally from a small village outside Harrogate in North Yorkshire, Charlie had already acquired considerable experience in the hospitality sector before arriving at the Hotel School. He worked as an assistant chef, a waiter and a barrister at a tearooms in the Cotswolds and a craft bakery which produced cakes for Harrods and the Queen’s grocers, Fortnum and Mason.
Charlie believes that the Edge Hotel School is ‘a big step forward’ in his career and will give him an advantage due to its prestigious profile. During his time at the hotel he has already realised the importance of the golden rule – ‘One team; when the hotel team don’t work as one there is an obvious decrease in efficiency and miscommunication issues start to become apparent.’
Although so far Charlie has particularly enjoyed the food and beverage aspect of the industry, he’s keeping his options open for the moment.
‘This industry is so vast and tremendous in variety, I don’t want to be blinkered and focus on one area too soon, but I do have a passion for serving high quality and great tasting food and you get a real buzz from the customer satisfaction.’
