The emergence of the green energy sector has the potential to generate new employment opportunities and economic growth for coastal communities. However, our research shows that there are currently significant barriers in place to achieving these goals, particularly for the young adults that live in these communities. This research addresses:
What barriers to youth employment or recruitment in green jobs have policymakers and practitioners identified?
2.What interventions have been or are being put into place to address these barriers?
3.How do young people feel about green jobs and the current support for their career preparation?
To address these questions, 26 key informants were interviewed from within and beyond Great Yarmouth, including policymakers, employers, careers guidance professionals, youth practitioners and educators.
To understand young people’s perspectives, 7 focus groups were conducted in Great Yarmouth with 24 young people aged 13-25, gauging their knowledge about green jobs, and asking about what support they have had to help them develop their knowledge about career options and career planning.
