After leaving school Jahangir wanted to work in some form of diagnostics. Medicine was tempting, but he decided his passion was with engineering. Now he’s doing a BBC apprenticeship which includes a sponsored degree and multiple work placements.
It was while volunteering at a community TV channel that Jahangir realised his vocation. “It was just something I could really see myself doing day in, day out”.
He is now completing a ten-week placement with the BBC’s engineering team in New Broadcasting House, while also studying towards his broadcast engineering degree. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity – it’s amazing to be here”.
The team provides technical support across the entire BBC multi-platform output for News, World Service, Audio and Music. “That’s a lot of running around if things go wrong!” he admits.
Jahangir believes that technology offers great opportunities for career progress – and he really enjoys it. “I wake up every morning wanting to come to work and learn something new”.
