Michael Warburton is Head of Computer Games Development at Cambridge Regional College but he also runs his own commercial gaming company, Rizing Games.
After completing an NVQ Level 3 in Music Practice and Technology Michael went on to university and graduated with an HND in Popular Musics. Alongside his studies he managed a band and sees this as the biggest learning experience of his life; he learnt the skills to run a business, communicate and develop products. In what remained of his spare time, Michael taught himself games programming and even released his own game.
In 2009, the band came to an end and Michael, inspired by his own teachers, completed a Diploma to Teach in the Lifelong Sector and became a lecturer in Music Technology and Composition. After establishing Rizing Games, Michael moved over into his current position as Head of Computer Games Development.
In 2015 his students nominated him for BAFTA’s Young Games Designers Mentor Award. As well as his success as a lecturer, Michael’s also proved a hit in the industry and Rizing Games has gained support from some the lead players in the gaming world including Unity and tech giants ARM.
Each June Michael organises a stand at the world’s premier gaming trade show in L.A. where his students exhibit their titles, rubbing shoulders with the giants of the industry, such as PlayStation and Microsoft.
