Studio Liverpool received a grant of £99,750 in the 2016/17 Edge Grant Fund to support development of Studio DEN – a Digital Entrepreneurship Network.
Activate Learning received a grant of £75,500 in the 2018/19 Edge Grant Fund for their development of a project based learning (PBL) model which can be differentiated for academic and vocational learners.
Activate Learning has developed a PBL framework to sit alongside the Activate Learning approach. The framework, which is housed on Activate’s in-house learning platform, provides a structured approach to the delivery and use of PBL complete with a range of tools and resources. The framework can be used by teaching staff and learners in both face-to-face situations and also for remote learning.
Within the framework, teaching staff and learners are guided through what PBL is, how design thinking operates and provides videos and resources to support users through an 8 step process. Learners are also able to create a personalised employability passport, based on a number of attributes and using evidence gathered through their work with employers on real projects. For academic A level students, use of the framework and the employability passport provides a useful alternative or adjunct to work experience. For teaching staff, the framework also provides support for the planning, delivery and assessment of PBL.
Student and staff feedback to date has been very positive and further development is planned to ensure the framework can continue to enhance the remote delivery of project based learning.
John Sandford, CMIOSH Director of SMS Environmental“We are delighted to be making further long-term commitments to Reading College’s plumbing department, which continues to show a real pioneering spirit in its approach to learning.
“For too long there has been a dearth of specific practical training courses available to employers in the water treatment industry and we have wanted to redress this balance for a while.
“With SMS providing the expertise to run the new courses and in Activate Learning who are providing the spaces to do so, we believe we have found a true partnership approach that works for all. These courses should create benefits for both students, our employees and the wider public for years to come.”
