We warmly welcome the Prime Minister's announcement today of plans to fundamentally overhaul the education system with a view to strengthening post-14 technical pathways for young people.
Over the past decade, Edge has been outspoken in calling for changes to post-14 education to provide greater opportunity for young people to explore technical subjects and develop essential skills. We have mapped out our vision in various publications, including Our plan for schools and Bacc to the drawing board. Today's announcement represents the culmination of Edge's extensive work and advice to policymakers over this period.
Given the urgent need for change to the education system to better prepare young people for employment, we're delighted to see the new Prime Minister pledge to introduce new technical pathways shaped by local leaders, alongside expanded employer project and workplace experience.
This builds on the model of the MBacc in Greatrer Manchester, which aims to provide a line of sight for young people into fast-growing industries in the region, and where Edge supported the early stages of development.
As with any exciting policy developments, the challenge will come with implementation. We look forward to bringing our learning from the past and our extensive research and experience in this area to bear to help make sure that this new direction is a success.
