Ofsted has introduced its fifth framework in 2019 to inspect mainstream schools as well as early years, special schools, and the further education sector. Consequently, it is timely to investigate how FE colleges experience Ofsted inspections and research into the effects of the new inspection framework. In a time when improving education and training is high in the national agenda, the question concerning how stakeholders perceive FE Ofsted inspections is key.
The mixed-method study will integrate:
- Systematic review of the literature with primary research on inspections in FE.
- Quantitative survey: We will collect quantitative data regarding headteachers and teachers’ views on Ofsted inspections.
- Qualitative interviews: Individual semi-structured interview will be conducted with teachers and leaders working in FE colleges with different Ofsted ratings, to gain a deeper insight into stakeholders’ experiences with the 2019 inspection framework in different contexts.
