Following the government reshuffle at the end of last week, Edge Chief Executive Alice Gardner said,
"The skills brief is once again on the move – this time to the Department for Work and Pensions. While we wait for further detail on how responsibility will be split between the two departments, it is crucial that the Government learns from the past to ensure that this latest move doesn’t undermine long-term progress. With nearly a million 16–24 year-olds still not in education, employment, or training, the Government can't afford to let skills fall through the cracks. What matters now is a clear and consistent commitment to young people’s futures – which could be particularly enhanced by expanding apprenticeships for under-19s and ensuring that opportunities to learn and work are not lost in yet another departmental reorganisation.”

"We look forward to working with the new Ministers in both the DfE and DWP to make education relevant."
