Introduction and overview of the webinar
Walsall College in the West Midlands serves 11,000 learners across vocational, technical and higher education programmes and apprenticeships. The largest provider of qualifications for 14 to 19-year-olds in the Borough of Walsall, it was the first the Black Country college to be rated outstanding by Ofsted.
In 2021, Creative Media Lecturer, Melissa Tisdale, launched a groundbreaking in-house media production enterprise, Future Flames Productions. A fully functioning production company, it offers students real-world experience creating video and audio content for local clients. Future Flames has since become a cross-college model, to date spanning the media, dance and graphic design departments.
The sessions in this webinar explore: the college’s vision; an account of founding and developing the enterprise; benefits to staff and students; student perspectives on what participation means for their confidence and careers; client insights; how the enterprise serves diversity, equity and inclusion, and finally, Future Flames' expansion across.
