Five factors impacting the future of public sector skills landscape

The 2024 OU Business Barometer report found that skills shortages exist across all sectors, but are slightly higher in the public sector than the private sector (66% vs 62%). The survey reports that public sector organisations are experiencing significant skills shortages, with 78% identifying increased workloads on existing staff due to these shortfalls. These higher work demands are one of the factors affecting recruitment, retention and service delivery in the public sector.
