New CEPEO research published today, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, highlights the important role played by employer recruitment practices in driving inequalities in access to professional occupations by socio-economic background and ethnicity.
Using data on over 250,000 applicants for entry-level roles in 17 large employers in the UK, spanning both the public and private sectors, the research shows that applicants for entry-level roles in these firms are largely representative of the broader graduate population. However, inequalities emerge and widen at each stage of the application process.
