Science, technology, engineering and maths are collectively known as STEM. They are seen by many as important for the UK’s economic future. The Department for Education (DfE) estimated that 9.4 million people in the UK were in STEM-related employment in 2023, a number projected to rise by 10% by 2030 under the DfE’s high-growth scenario.
